Prayer Model

How it works

This prayer model is meant to help us remember the important elements of prayer which Jesus outlines in Matthew 6:9-13. This is intended to be a guide and a tool to help provide focus in your prayer time. When used within a group, let everyone know you will be using this prayer model. Start off by announcing the topic and giving some direction. For example you could say,

“Tonight let's use the T.A.C.O.S. prayer model to help guide our time in prayer. To start will begin with thanksgiving. This is a time to thank the Lord for all that he has done and will do”.

The prayer time should be open where you and others can pray as the Holy Spirit leads. No one is required to pray and people can pray quietly or aloud.

It might help to also include the Popcorn Method, where each person prays no more than 1 minute and after they are done they wait for someone else to pray before going again. They are welcome to pray several times through one topic, but this ensures that everyone has an opportunity to participate.

Thanksgiving - Spend time thanking God for what he has done (Phil. 4:6-7, Psalm 100:4)

Adoration - Spend time praising God and adoring him (Matt. 6:9)

Confession - Spend time confessing sins openly (Psalm 139:23-24, 1 John 1:8-9)

Others - Spend time praying for others including; friends, neighbors (1 Tim. 2:1-4)

Self - Spend time praying for yourself (Matt. 7:7-8)
