Week Two - Day Five
Sharing Jesus’ work with others is Worship
John 4:28-30 - So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” They went out of the town and were coming to him.
John 4:39-42 - Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”
When the woman at the well realized that Jesus was the promised Christ, the Messiah who would save the world, it seems she could not help herself but to share it with others. Suddenly, her social status and the opinions of the community did not seem to matter. Her testimony, “Come see the man who told me all that I ever did” was not meant to make her look important or impressive. Through her honesty with others, the woman at the well worshiped Jesus. She was willing to tell the truth about her past and failures in order to tell the truth about who Jesus was. To worship means to show reverence or adoration, to make much of. The woman made much of Jesus, and the people in her community wanted to know him as well. It’s amazing that v. 39 describes how the Samaritans believed in Jesus “because of the woman’s testimony.” The woman’s testimony of who Jesus was caused “many” to believe! As we realize Jesus is the eternal God, the Lord and Creator of all the universe who knows all that we ever did and loves us still, we cannot help but share that with others. This over ow of worship in our lives will impact others for God’s kingdom.
