The second service will be at 6:00 p.m. with a candlelight Order of Worship for the Evening. This service will include songs accompanied by guitar. The whole family is invited to celebrate the tradition of Epiphany, the "appearance," of the Christ-child to the Wisemen.

SECOND SUNDAY SHARING is January 9th. Please mark your check for "Outreach".

BAPTISM SUNDAY - Sunday, January 9, is the First Sunday after the Epiphany and is one of the traditional days for Holy Baptism. That Sunday, known as The Baptism of Our Lord, recalls Jesus' baptism by John in the River Jordan. We will be celebrated the sacrament of baptism at the 10:30 service that Sunday.

If you or your child is interested in being baptized on this day, please see Fr. Johnson or Elizabeth as soon as possible.

NAME TAG SUNDAY is January 16. Please wear a name tag as a means of making visitors and newcomers feel welcome. Have you introduced yourself to a newcomer or visitor lately?

ANNUAL PARISH MEETING - The Annual Parish Meeting will be January 23 immediately following the 10:30 service. At that time we will be electing three new members to the vestry. If you would like to nominate someone for this important and interesting position, please pick up and fill out a nomination form. They will be in the narthex and in the office. Remember...you must have a person's permission before you nominate them. Please turn in nominations by Wednesday, January 12, so profiles can be included in the Parish Report. Vestry members finishing their three-year terms are Babs Deas, Mike Vance, and Jerry Williams. We are grateful to them for their faithful service.

CATERED LUNCHEON - There will be a catered luncheon in the Parish Hall following the Annual Parish meeting. Sign up will be available in the narthex once plans are finalized. Watch for details. Please sign by Wednesday, January 19th so we will know how many to expect.

ECW MEETING - On Tuesday, January 25, the Episcopal Church Women (that is all women in the church!) will hold their winter meeting and election of officers. The meeting will begin with the Eucharist in the church at 9:30 a.m.

COADJUTOR NOMINEES - The Nominating Committee for Bishop Coadjutor has announced a slate of five priests from which the next Bishop of Mississippi will be selected. Those five priests, from five different states, are:

  • The Rev. Duncan M. Gray, III, Rector, St. Peter's Church, Oxford
  • The Very Rev. Henry Hudson, Dean, Trinity Cathedral, Little Rock, Arkansas
  • The Rev. Elizabeth Claiborne Jones, Rector, Epiphany Church, Atlanta, Georgia
  • The Rev. Dr. John Randolph Price, Rector, St. Anne's Church, Annapolis, Maryland.
  • The Rev. Leslie C. Smith, Rector, Trinity Church, Princeton, New Jersey.

The election will be held at St. Andrew's Cathedral in Jackson on Saturday, February 26, 2000.

FRAN MCKENDREE CONCERT - Fran McKendree, songwriter of a plethora of songs sung throughout Dioceses in the South and throughout the world, is coming to do a concert here in Starkville on Wednesday evening, January 26, 2000. Songs which you might know include "Come Away," "Wade in the Water," "Howard" and "Traveling the Road to Freedom". In approaching music Fran "blends the serious with the lighthearted, haunting ballads with rocking food-stompers, interwoven with a bit of South African or Celtic circle dancing and encouragement to experience life in new ways. His music engages the seeker within each of us...and touches the rhythm of our journey." This is a concert which will appeal to high school students, college students and adults. More information, including concert time and location, will be announced soon.

ANNUAL DIOCESAN COUNCIL is January 28-30 at the Trade Mart in Jackson. This promises to be an exciting council as there will be a chance to meet the nominees for Bishop Coadjutor. Our clergy and a number of lay persons will be in Jackson that weekend.

DUE TO ANNUAL COUNCIL on the weekend of January 30, there will be no Christian Education classes that Sunday and worship services that Sunday morning will be Morning Prayer.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN Thank you to all who worked on the Capital Campaign and all who gave so generously to make the campaign such a success. Success can be measured in many ways; the money is only one aspect of the good that came from this campaign. As a church family we worked for the common good with a joyful spirit, and that is wonderful. The total money pledged as of December 24 was over $390,000.00. In addition there are two planned gifts for a total of $100,000.00. We hope that will increase as those of you who have not yet made your pledges do so. We will keep you informed as the definite plans and drawings are developed for the renovations.

SPECIAL THANKS to Dr. Harrison and the Parish Choirs for all the hard work that went into making Advent Lessons and Carols such an exceptional event. It was wonderful and we all thank you! We are indeed fortunate to have such an outstanding music program! And more thanks to Mary Frances Brady and her helpers who made the Celebration so grand. It was a delightful evening!

ANNUAL PARISH REPORT - If you have been chair of a project, committee, or event at Resurrection in 1999, please write a brief review of your activities and get it to the church office by Wednesday, January 12, so it can be included in the Annual Parish Report.

HONDURAS HABITAT MISSION - Resurrection and The Canterbury Episcopal Fellowship at MSU will be participating in a Habitat for Humanity style building program in Honduras from May 28 to June 3. We will combine forces with St. Peter's Church, Oxford, and Canterbury Fellowship at Ole Miss. Are you interested? Your help is needed! Speak to Fr. Johnson or Elizabeth for more information.

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION! Adopt a job from the JOB JAR! Lists are posted in the Narthex.

YOUR PRAYERS ARE ASKED FOR Gretchen Passons and LaVora Williams as they undergo treatment in the coming months.

CONGRATULATIONS to Whitney Alyson Hilton and Randall David McMillen who were married December 17th at the Chapel of Memories, Mississippi State University Campus.
