GOOD NEWS
FROM CAPITAL CAMPAIGN - The good news continues! Pledges are
still coming in and we are officially over the top of our
$400,000 goal. We have 103 gifts totaling $404,000. Isn't
that wonderful! And that is in addition to the $110,000 in
planned gifts! Thanks to all who worked on the campaign and
to all who pledged. (It is not too late to pledge!) The
Vestry will be taking steps for the implementation of the
campaign plans in the near future. The congregation will be
kept fully informed of all developments!
ANNUAL PARISH MEETING NEWS - Congratulations to Alyson
Hardin, Dwayne Myers, and Paula Vaughan, our new vestry
members, who were elected at the Annual Parish Meeting.
Leigh Jensen Crawford was reelected Senior Warden and Happy
Deas was reelected Junior Warden. Thanks to all our vestry
members for serving in this vital position. Thanks, also to
those who are rotating off the vestry after years of
faithful service: Babs Deas (who also served as clerk for
five years), Mikell Vance, and Jerry Williams.
DIOCESAN COUNCIL - Congratulations to Ellen Newsom, who was
elected to the Diocesan Standing Committee at the 173rd
Annual Council last weekend. Ellen, along with three other
lay persons, four priests, and the Bishop, will serve as the
governing authority of the Diocese. She will serve a
four-year term.
THE WINDOWS ARE BACK! - Our stained glass windows are back
in their appropriate place above the altar - and well ahead
of schedule! Pearl River Stained Glass Studios completed
their work and reinstalled the windows last week. Many
thanks to Michael Fazio, who oversaw the whole process,
tending to the myriad details and several craftsmen who were
involved in the restoration.
EYC ON A ROLL! - A team of Canterbury Fellowship students
are pitching in to assist with EYC on a regular basis, and
plans are being made for a big semester. Junior High and
High School students are invited... urged... encouraged...
to get involved in the good things that are happening. Watch
for more details!
SPECIAL ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS - On Sunday, February 13
during the 9:15 a.m. Sunday School Class, Fr. Johnson will
discuss the process of electing a bishop. It is a
fascinating process, one which we will witness first hand on
February 26 in Jackson.
THE ELECTION OF THE BISHOP COADJUTOR will be at St. Andrew's
Cathedral, Jackson, on Saturday, February 26th. Nominees to
be considered are the Reverend Duncan M. Gray, III, of
Oxford; the Very Reverend Henry Hudson of Little Rock,
Arkansas; the Reverend Claiborne Jones of Atlanta, Georgia;
the Reverend John Price of Annapolis, Maryland; and the
Reverend Leslie Smith of Princeton, New Jersey. The bishop
coadjutor will serve as assistant to Bishop Marble, and then
become Bishop of Mississippi when Bishop Marble retires. To
learn more about this process, plan to attend David's Sunday
School Class on February 13th.
CONCERT A BIG SUCCESS! - The Fran McKendree Concert on
campus last week was a big success, with adults and youth
from across North Mississippi in attendance. An estimated
100 people were present to hear Fran sing his joyous,
interactive camp songs and his searching ballads which are
an integral part of youth events in the church.
Episcopalians from Starkville and MSU were the core group,
with others from Ole Miss, Tupelo, West Point, Columbus,
Jackson, and Greenwood in attendance. Many thanks to
Elizabeth and a team of volunteers including Walton Jones,
Donna Barnes, Amanda Yates, and a host of other Canterbury
students who helped organize the event. Thanks, also, to
Bill and Susan Hill for hosting Fran in their home.
INQUIRERS' CLASSES will begin Wednesday, February 16 from
7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Student Center and continue weekly
until the Bishop's visit for confirmation on April 16th. (No
meeting March 8 due to Spring Break.) Anyone interested in
learning more about the Episcopal Church or wishing to be
confirmed should plan to attend these classes. Speak with
Elizabeth for details.

Center in Little Rock, Arkansas for their annual retreat and
planning session on February 18-20. Please keep them in your
prayers as they seek direction for the parish.

on Saturday, March 4 at St. James, Jackson. Mark your

and Holy Unction are celebrated in the Parish Church at
12:05 noon followed by Dutch treat lunch.
CAMPUS SERVICES - The Holy Eucharist is celebrated each
Wednesday at the Chapel of Memories on Campus at 12:05.
CAREGIVERS will meet Tuesday, February 1st at 10:00 a.m. in
the reception area of the office. In this caring ministry,
volunteers meet with the Rector and learn of needs and
concerns of the parish and then assist in any way they
can...with visits, meals, cards and phone calls.
LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTER TRAINING for students (and anyone
who is interested) will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday,
February 2 in the Church.
ALTAR GUILD MEETING - Current and potential members of the
altar guild are encouraged to attend a meeting at 10:00 a.m.
in the church on Saturday, February 5. Marsha Williams and
Fr. Johnson will go over various changes and fine tuning of
procedures. Changes in Altar Guild Schedule will also be
discussed. For continuity sake, it is important for all
Altar Guild Members to be present.
HONDURAS MEDICAL MISSION - Elizabeth Wheatley and Carlton
Polk will be in Honduras February 5-12 on the Diocese of
Mississippi's Annual Medical Mission. This will be the 4th
consecutive year Resurrection has been represented on the

HELP! Birthday Sunday rolls around real often when you are
the only one making cakes and punch! Kim Noffsinger needs
some help with Birthday Sunday. There is a sign up list in
the Narthex. Please sign up for a month that you can make
the cake and punch! Choose the month of your child's
birthday...or your own...or a month no one in your family
has a birthday. Just choose one!
HONDURAS HABITAT MISSION - Resurrection and Canterbury
Episcopal Fellowship at MSU will be participating in a
Habitat for Humanity style building program in Honduras from
May 28 to June 3. We will combine forces with St. Peter's
Church, Oxford, and Canterbury Fellowship at Ole Miss. Are
you interested? Your help is needed! Speak to Fr. Johnson or
Elizabeth for more information.
COLUMBARIUM - David and Sherrie VanLandingham and Clark and
Beth Callahan are the volunteer chairmen of the Columbarium
Committee. (A columbarium is a place set aside, either
inside or outside church buildings, as a repository of
cremated remains, also known as "cremains". Each individual
urn of cremains is stored in an individual space known as a
"niche".) This newly formed committee will be responsible
for site location, design, and financing of a columbarium
for our church. Please contact David or Sherrie with your
suggestions and/or recommendations for a columbarium. If you
would like to help on this committee, please call or e-mail
them at 323-1678 or dsvan@futuresouth.com.
GREETINGS FROM AN OLD FRIEND - Recently Melinda Myers of our
parish attended a spirituality retreat at Camp McDowell in
Alabama. She was delighted to meet the Reverend Emile
Joffrion and his wife, Martha. Some of you may remember the
Joffrion's from the time they served this parish 48 years
ago. They send their best wishes to everyone at
Resurrection. Martha said she has fond memories of their
time at Resurrection. Emile and Martha are retired now and
living in Huntsville, Alabama.
