OUTREACH NEWS - Helping Hands, the group that distributes food we collect, is a ministry organized through Peter's Rock Church. We are one of many churches who participate. Helping Hands assists with rent, utility bills, gas, and food for people who need help. People in need can contact participating churches for an application which they then take to Peter's Rock (or they can go straight to Peter's Rock.) If they are requesting food, Helping Hands will give them a voucher and direct them to the Salvation Army. All non-perishable food, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies etc. are stored and distributed at the Salvation Army in Starkville. They will also be given a voucher for Mac's Meat Market where they can pick up perishable items such as milk, eggs and bread. An average of 10 people a week are helped by the program. RENOVATION COMMITTEE REPORT - The renovation work on the Nursery continues on schedule and should be completed by the end of January. The architectural drawings for Phase 2 of the work are being finalized. They should be completed by the middle of February and work is tentatively scheduled to begin around the first of May. HONDURAS HABITAT MISSION - Resurrection is once again sponsoring a Habitat for Humanity Mission to Honduras May 24-31. We want people with strong hearts and willing backs to spend a week in close quarters with about 15 others experiencing spiritually enlivening opportunities while building houses for our Honduran sisters and brothers. For more information contact David Lewis at 325-2509 or dclewis@sarc.msstate.edu. There are application forms in the narthex. THANKS to outgoing vestry members for three years' service (and even more in the case of Michael Fazio, who served two extra years of an unexpired term!) We appreciate the work of Michael, Bill Hill, and Hellen Polk during these important years and our gratitude goes out to you. ECW NEWS - Church of the Resurrection is proud to sponsor a Women's Spirituality Circle, open to members and non-members. The purpose of this group is to offer a safe, open, and supportive environment to explore a variety of spiritual issues and challenges, as well as to find points of connection as a group. People of varying religious traditions are welcomed! We tentatively plan to meet in the Student Center at 7:00 p.m. every other Monday, beginning February 12th. If you have questions, please call Linda Cox at 325-2091 (work) or 324-3876 (home). CANTERBURY NEWS Plans are underway for next summer's York Exchange. This year a group of about a dozen Mississippians will go to England for a month! Watch for details. EYC - Applications for Diocesan Youth Council (February 2-4), Sr. High DOY (March 23-25), and Happening #48 (March 23-25) are available in the church office. JOB JAR RETURNS - Include the church in your New Year's Resolutions...do a job from the job jar! These jobs are for January and February only, so you are not signing up for a major commitment. There are lots of little jobs that need to be done. MORE OPPORTUNITIES - Rather cook than clean? Consider offering your services and sign up to fix a meal on Tuesday night for the students, snacks for the Sunday School classes, and birthday cake and punch on Birthday Sundays. And don't forget to take a turn making coffee on Sunday mornings. These events don't just happen! The sign-up sheets are on the bulletin board in the Narthex. MUSICAL OR ARTISTIC? - Elizabeth is looking for musicians and artists, not necessarily professional or polished, who are interested in offering their gifts on Wednesdays at noon during Lent for a series entitled: "Responses to the Passion". If you are interested, please contact Elizabeth. MISSING - With the Red Beans and Rice dinner and Soup and Bread Luncheons coming up we need to gather all the green table cloths in the upstairs kitchen. If you have one at home in your laundry basket, now is the time to bring it in! We are real short! Do you know where the sign telling of Christmas Eve Services is? If so, please call Nelda in the church office. DEADLINES - Please help us get news and notices out in a timely fashion. Have your notices for the Sunday Bulletin in the office by Wednesday noon, and for the Newsletter by the 15th of the month. CONGRATULATIONS and welcome to our newest members, Dick Grant, Varland Owens, Steven Brown, and Graham Dewey who were baptized on January 7th. CHRISTIAN SYMPATHY is extended to Beth and Bill Batson on the death of Beth's father, Paul Boling; to Gretchen and Peyton Passons on the death of Gretchen's mother, Ruth Povall; to Betsy Stark and Bill Stark on the death of her sister-in-law and his aunt, Lillian Stark; and to the family of Pepper Holland on Pepper's death. MEMORIALS were received during the month for Pepper Holland and Robert Holland. LOOKING AHEAD...
