Of particular notice is the Tuesday and Wednesday flip-flop. In addition, we have added Sunday night "Fun & Games" and the Wednesday night Canterbury Forum, a 10-week Teaching Series which will involve guests from our parish, convocation, and diocese who will speak on their life's passion and invite the Canterbury community into the conversation. All are invited to join our services, forums and fellowship!

CHOIR PRACTICE RESUMES - Adult choir rehearsals will resume on Wednesday, September 5th, 5:30-6:30 p.m. We welcome MSU students, as well as new and returning singers, and invite you to join us at our First Annual Overnight Choir Retreat, led by the Rev. Please join us for fun, community building, spiritual renewal, and celebration of music and liturgy.

SEPTEMBER 9TH is a red letter day and a great start of the fall semester! In addition to the choir returning to the choir loft and Sunday School resuming, the Rev. Murray Bullock will be here to celebrate and preach as our Interim Rector! Rumor has it that he has been working on his sermon for weeks...don't miss it! There will be a small reception in the Student Center to welcome Murray and Bobbie Sue following the 10:30 service.

SUNDAY SCHOOL KICKOFF - Sunday School for Adults and Children begins Sunday, September 9th. The entire Sunday School community - young and not-so-young will gather at 9:15 a.m. in the church for an intergenerational welcome back gathering. Then, each group will go to their respective classrooms to get acquainted and to discuss the plan for the fall semester. Children's classes (0 yrs - 12th grade) will meet from 9:15 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. followed by group snacks and playtime. We have a wonderful group of dedicated and creative adults who will serve as our Christian Educators this year. We hope to see all of you - young and not-so-young - on Sunday mornings!

EYC kicked off the year with a humdinger of a gathering of 10 Jr-Hi (6th-8th) and 7 Sr-Hi (9th-12th) young people and 7 EYC leaders, masterfully coordinated by our own Amanda Yates! Four of our EYC leaders attended the "Adults Who Work With Youth" (AWWWY) Conference at Gray Center in August at which they gained new insights and gathered a slew of ideas for our EYC program. So, please make plans to join us every Sunday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. for music, games, spiritual growth and all kinds of FUN! This year should prove to be MARVILLOSO!

ACOLYTE TRAINING - It's that time again. Come One-Come All young people in grades 4 through 12 to be trained and refresh your training as an acolyte. With an interim rector coming on board and new folks coming in and out as Celebrants, it is very important that we all be secure in our roles in the service and work together as a team. Parents of acolytes need to know what is expected, too. Please plan to join us for the training. We have set two dates and times for Acolyte Training: September 9th at EYC (5-7 p.m.), includes dinner for ALL; and September 16th during Sunday School. Let's get in shape, liturgically!

Please bring school supplies such as crayons, round tip Fiscar scissors, washable markers, Elmers Glue, construction paper, erasers, rulers, notebooks, pencils, two-pocket folders, colored pencils, Kleenex, paper towels or hand sanitizer (not soap). Parishioners, students and all who love animals are invited to bring pets of all shapes, species and sizes to participate in this unique blessing and thanksgiving. In addition, we will say a Litany for all of the pets, living and dead, who have blessed our lives. In the words of the great hymn, "All things bright and beautiful, all creatures grunt and smell..."

EFM - Bob Collins reports that at the initial meeting the group decided to meet on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in the office Sitting Room. It is not too late to join this group for this year's class. For details see last month's newsletter or contact Bob Collins.

OUTREACH UPDATE from Jane Jenkins: We have just returned from delivering the school supplies - unbelievable...the biggest, hugest thank you to the congregation for the overwhelming response to the Back to School program. The children were beside themselves as they opened their backpacks and their very own myriad of school supplies came tumbling out! Then they got to their clothes and were holding them up and admiring one another's outfits. One of the mums actually said to me that she didn't know what she would have done if it hadn't been for the generosity, kindness and thoughtfulness of our congregation. The excitement was quite contagious! That is why I wanted to pass this on to you to say a very big thank you, bigger than you can ever imagine!

RENOVATION COMMITTEE REPORT - David VanLandingham, chair of the Renovation Committee reports work continues in the parish hall. Cabinets in the kitchen are receiving new counter tops and new moldings. Painting should begin soon. New floor covering is scheduled for the first week in September. In the sacristy wood framing is almost complete and brick have been laid. Reminder...once the parish hall has been completed, work will begin in the nave. During that time services will be held our newly renovated parish hall.

CONGRATULATIONS to our seminarian, Lynn Barker who has had a sermon printed in the fall issue of the Sewanee Theological Review. Lynn promised to send a copy to the office for anyone who would like to read her sermon and see how skillfully she turns the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into a tribute to Bishop Gray II! We're proud of you, Lynn!
