WORSHIP SCHEDULE
During the remainder of the renovations all services will be held in the Parish Hall (downstairs). Good news! Our time is drawing short in the Parish Hall! Watch for information on the big move upstairs, maybe by the end of this month! In the meantime, please continue to be patient and flexible as we worship in the Parish Hall!

TUESDAY:
12:30 p.m. Noonday Prayers on campus
(Except during Lent... all are invited to join us at Resurrection on Tuesdays at 12:05p.m. for Holy Eucharist and Soup and Bread Lunch)
10:00 p.m. Compline and Coffee

WEDNESDAY:
6:15 p.m. Canterbury Dinner
7:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist

THURSDAY: 12:05 p.m. Healing & Holy Eucharist followed by "Dutch treat" lunch

LENTEN SCHEDULE

  • Shrove Tuesday - February 12, 6:00 p.m. - Red Beans & Rice Mardi Gras Festivities in the Parish Hall.
  • Ash Wednesday - February 13, 12:05 p.m.- Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes, Chapel of Memories
  • 5:30 p.m. Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes in the Parish Hall.
  • Tuesdays in Lent -12:05 p.m. Holy Eucharist (If the service is in the church, the service will be followed by Soup and Bread Luncheon. Otherwise we will no space for a luncheon.)
  • Canterbury services will continue during Lent, except for the Tuesday Noonday Prayers, as indicated in the weekly schedule above.

PARKING PROTOCOL - While we are meeting in the Parish Hall, remember there is parking behind Merchants & Farmers Bank. Please leave the spots closest to the Parish Hall for those for whom walking may be a problem. If you are able to do the stairs, feel free to park in the upper parking lot. Once we move back into the church, please reserve the upper parking lot for those for whom the stairs are a problem and those with small children. Thanks!

CHOIR WARMUPS - The choir will warm up in the worship space from 10:00-10:15 each Sunday morning. Please enter quietly to say prayers and prepare for worship.

DIOCESAN COUNCIL is February 1-3 in Vicksburg. Those attending from Resurrection are Murray and Bobbe Sue Bullock, John and Mary Lee Beal, Lynn Barker, Chris and Elaine Brown, Gayle and David Foote, Jan and Tom Handy, Alyson and Bill Hardin, Alice and Jim Jones, Sherrie and David VanLandingham, Elizabeth Wheatley, Amanda Yates, Tyler Finklea, Austin Smith, Keri Denley, Megan Sabol, Rachael White, Meredith Rea, Melissa Young, and Ellen Newsom. Mary Lee, Alyson and Ellen are delegates, and John, Bill and Gayle are alternates. The closing Eucharist is Sunday, Feb. 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Vicksburg Convention Center and is always lovely....worth a road trip!

ST. MARTHA'S GUILD will meet February 4th at 12:30 p.m. in the Sunday School room off the office for brown bag lunch and fellowship. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

HONDURAS MEDICAL MISSION - The Medical Mission which this parish sponsored several years ago, will have a representative from Resurrection this year! Dr. Roger Clapp will be making his first trip with the team February 9-16. Please keep Roger, the other team members and the villagers they serve in your prayers.

SECOND SUNDAY SHARING is February 10th. Please bring bring offerings of canned goods, staples and non-perishable food items for the Food Pantry.

ADULT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION - Adult Christian Education has begun an Exodus study facilitated by Elizabeth Wheatley. They are using the Kerygma Program resource book entitled: Exodus: Gateway to the Bible. This program will provide the framework for exploration of biblical theology and the themes of Exodus as a basis for theological reflection. Participants in this class are asked to purchase the resource book and participate through preparation, study and regular attendance. If you are still interested in joining us, please contact Elizabeth.

SHROVE TUESDAY MARDI GRAS PARTY of Red Beans and Rice will be on February 12th at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. There will be a $5.00 per person charge in order to cover expenses. Please make your reservation by calling Nelda (323-3483) No Later Than Sunday, February 10th, so chef Michael Fazio will know how to plan.

VESTRY RETREAT - The Annual Vestry Retreat is scheduled for February 15-16th at Plymouth Bluff Conference Center. Our faithful consultant, Linda Nelson will lead this retreat with our newly constituted vestry to help us discern our leadership as we continue to move through the search and renovations processes!

BAPTISMS AND CONFIRMATIONS - If you are interested in participating in an Inquirers' Class either on Sunday morning or on a week night, please contact Elizabeth. Bishop Marble will be making his annual visitation on Palm Sunday at which time we will celebrate baptisms and confirmations..

STEWARDSHIP - If you have not already made your pledge, it is not too late! As this newsletter goes to press the Vestry is preparing to present a deficit budget at the Annual Meeting. Every pledge counts and every dollar helps!

ECW NEWS - The January meeting of the Episcopal Church Women began with the Holy Eucharist, after which the following officers were elected. Mary Frances Brady President, Mary Eleanor Anderson 1st Vice President, Jean Little 2nd Vice President Margaret King, Secretary, Melinda Myers Treasurer, Gretchen Simmons UTO Chair.

SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE -John Beal reports the Search Committee will continue to accept applications through January. Our consultant, Linda Nelson, met with us in January and will return in February to get us started in evaluating the applications received. Hopefully, we will begin interviews in late February.

RENOVATION COMMITTEE REPORT - David VanLandingham reports that work on Phase II of our renovations (the nursery was Phase I) is now approximately 90% complete. Minor work remains to be done in the nave, including painting, carpet and a few light fixtures. Painting is progressing well in the student center and kitchen. Clean up has just begun. Exterior work remaining includes smoothing up the yard, clean up and trash removal. We hope to occupy the spaces by the end of February!

COLUMBARIUM REPORT-Sherrie VanLandingham reports that as of December 31, 2001, the Columbarium Committee has sold 30 niches and has a total of $43, 008 in the bank account. This account includes memorial donations and $5,000 designated for the cost of building the Labyrinth. Construction should begin this spring! The construction of the Columbarium Garden, Labyrinth and Meditation Area and their maintenance will be totally self-supporting. Please contact a member of the committee if you have any questions. The members of the committee are Bob and Mary Eleanor Anderson, Clark and Beth Callahan, Tommy Wakeman and David and Sherrie VanLandingham.

EYC is moving and shaking this semester with lots of cool things on the calendar including dinners at the homes of many of our parishioners/EYC families and a Sr-Hi Lock-In with the Catholic Youth Organization. A number of young folks are planning on going to Diocesan events. If you are interested, applications for Jr-Hi and Sr-Hi retreats are available on the bulletin board in the office. Get your applications in ASAP.

CANTERBURY continues to expand and grow to the point that we are pleased to announce the hiring of a part-time Office Assistant/Gopher, Amanda Boyd! We have 10 or more young adults registered for Council which should prove to be an exciting and informative time for all. As usual, Canterbury extends a warm welcome to you to join us on Wednesday evenings for Holy Eucharist at 7:00pm.

HONDURAS BUILDING MISSION - WE NEED YOU to consider participating in the third annual building mission to San Pedro Sula, Honduras during Spring Break. We need a minimum of 10 people to make it feasible.

Come help build houses, engage in spiritual camaraderie, and experience virtuous fun in the sun. If interested, please call contact David Lewis at dlewis@sarc.msstate.edu.

CONGRATULATIONS to Bert and Peggy Reed on the birth of their granddaughter, Mattie Ray Phelps. Mattie Ray's parents are Stephanie and Steven Phelps.

CHRISTIAN SYMPATHY is extended to Karen Cathcart and family on the death of her cousin, John Hratko, who recently died. "Rest eternal grant him, O Father, and let light perpetual shine upon him." Pray for all who mourn..

YOUR PRAYERS ARE ASKED FOR LaVora Williams and Lorenzo Crowell as they undergo treatment, Guy Hargrove who is recovering from surgery, Jan Handy who has had cataract surgery, Malvina Moore who is recovering from a broken shoulder, and for Marlene Evans who is gravely ill.

SUMMARY OF JANUARY VESTRY MEETING:
-authorized demolition of part of the Scales House
-authorized hiring of J&R Cleaning Service
-agreed to present a deficit budget in order to maintain our current programs and to move forward in faith.
-decided to go to a purchase order system for all spending
-Murray expressed hope that this parish will use Lent to get in touch with our spiritual life and grow into our fullest potential
