SUNRISE NEWS & EVENTS WORSHIP
SCHEDULE: WEDNESDAY: THURSDAY: NURSERY REMINDER - The nursery is open for the 10:30 a.m. service only and is being staffed by parents and volunteers . Openings remain for October 13th and 20th. (Teens, moms, dads and non-parents welcome!) Call Jay McCombs to volunteer. Thanks to our September nursery workers...Julie Baca, Margaret King, Jennifer Damms, Michelle Ray, and Emily Schuster. STEWARDSHIP KICKOFF WILL BE HELD OCTOBER 3RD - Silent Auction, Wine and Hors d'oeuvres begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Student Center, followed by a catered dinner at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall (downstairs). Proceeds from the Auction will pay for the dinner, with the balance going to the general fund. Join us for a fun evening...and pick up your pledge cards! WELCOME BILL AND DIANE LIVINGSTON! - Sunday, October 6th, we will welcome The Rev. and Mrs. Bill Livingston to our new ministry at Resurrection! Be sure to be here to welcome Bill and Diane at the services and stay for the reception following the 10:30 service. BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS - The feast day of St. Francis of Assisi is October 4th, so we will bless the animals on Sunday, October 6th at 5:00 p.m. in the church parking lot. Bring your pets, large and small, in a cage or on a leash please! Please bring an offering for the local Humane Society. (The Shelter needs include bleach, pine-sol, spray bottles, paper towels, disposable gloves, dog collars and leashes, topical flea control products for dogs and cats, and used towels and blankets for the winter months) Invite your friends to come and bring their pets! SLOPE UPDATE From Pam Collins: NAME TAG MONTH - To help welcome Bill and Diane Livingston and all our new folks, please wear a name tag every Sunday in October! ST. MARTHA'S GUILD will meet Monday, October 7th at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Center for fellowship and a brown bag lunch. Visitors are always welcome. PRESBYTERS CONFERENCE (formerly known as Clergy Conference ) will be held at Gray Center October 7-10 and both of our clergy will be attending the conference. In case of emergency during their absence, please call the Senior Warden, Mary Lee Beal or the church office. SEEDS OF FAITH CONFERENCE - "With New Eyes: The Heart of Christianity" featuring Dr. Marcus J. Borg will take place October 18-20 at Mediator, Meridian. Cost: $50 (or $25 for Friday night only). Information & registration are on the bulletin board in the Student Center. UNITED THANK OFFERING - The fall ingathering of UTO will be Sunday, October 20th. Women of Resurrection join women across the country in emptying their blue boxes and making gifts of thanksgiving to projects around the country. Our Student Center was built with UTO funds. Call Gretchen Simmons BECOMING A PROGRAM-SIZED CHURCH - As we hover between being a pastoral-sized church and program-sized church it is important that we explore the differences and learn how we can do a better job of being the church for our members and the greater community. Consider attending "Growing a Program-Sized Parish" at St. Paul's, Columbus on Friday and Saturday, October 25-26th. Contact Bill or Mary Lee for details. FALL BACK to Standard Time by turning your clocks back one hour on the evening of Saturday, October 26th. THE CELEBRATION OF NEW MINISTRY will be held OCTOBER 27TH, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Following the service there will be a potluck supper (meat provided) in the Parish Hall and a "pounding" for Bill and Diane. Bring a gift of a "pound" of something for them to use in getting settled in Starkville...flour, sugar, duct tape, nails, potting soil, candles...use your imagination. Join us as we celebrate Resurrections new ministry. ANNUAL DIOCESAN ECW MEETING will be easy to attend this year...it is at St. Paul's in Columbus! It begins Friday, November 8th with a speaker, Compline and a wine and cheese party at 7:00 p.m. Saturday events begin at 8:00 a.m. and include continental breakfast, meeting, speaker, closing Eucharist, and a light lunch. NEWS from Tyler Finklea: ADOPT A DAWG! - If you would like to "adopt" a Canterbury student for the year by having them over for a meal from time to time and being their home away from home, please sign the list in the narthex. We have a great group of students...treat yourself and adopt one! PARISH DIRECTORY UPDATE - It is time to update the Parish Directory. If you are new since the last directory; if your name, address, phone or E-mail has changed; or if you have added family members, please notify Ellen (323-9278 or wnewsom9@bellsouth.net) ASAP! With a new rector and lots of new folks we need to have a current directory. Hopefully it will be ready before the end of October. Get your changes to Ellen now! PARKING REMINDER - If you are physically able to walk and negotiate the stairs easily, please park in the lot behind Merchants & Farmers Bank, along Montgomery Street or in the lot at the corner of Main and Montgomery. Let's leave the upper lot for our elder saints, those for whom stairs are a problem, and those with small children! VESTRY ON DUTY - There is a vestry member on duty at each Sunday morning service. This person is there to help new folks and to answer questions as well as to make sure we are being good stewards of our physical resources by making the proper adjustments at the close of the service. Check the bulletin to know who is on duty, and be sure to touch base with them if you have questions, concerns or compliments! WELCOME to those who were confirmed during Bishop Marble's September visit to the Canterbury community. They are Brenda, Charlie, Mary Claire and Carol Jackson, Shane Brown, Beth Turner, and Jennifer Wright. SPECIAL THANKS AGAIN to Tom Handy for designing and constructing the beautiful wooden shelves in the Narthex for "toys and things"! POOL NEWS - By the time you read this the pool will be closed for the season. Thanks to all who contributed to the pool financially or by doing all the little things that keep it looking good and being safe. And special thanks to Jay McCombs for coordinating the pool efforts. VOLUNTEERS - Thanks to Lynn Phillips who has volunteered to head up our New Member Ministry, to Jean and Charles Little for taking care of Sunday morning coffee hours during August and September, and to Linda and Robert Cox who will be doing coffee hour in October. Thanks to Ginny Powell, Megan Sabol and John Talbert for their volunteer work with EYC. And, thanks to Ellen Newsom, Linda & Robert Cox, Jean Little, and John Talbert for providing and assisting with Canterbury meals during September.
