How
to be a member
Persons
interested in being a member of the Episcopal Church have
two forms of membership available. They include the
following:
BAPTIZED
MEMBER - Recognizing the primary nature of the sacrament
of Holy Baptism, persons may join the Episcopal Church of
the Resurrection by being baptized in the church, or by
having an earlier baptism recorded on the rolls of the
church. There are five dates for baptisms each year.
If you have been baptized in another congregation or
denomination, you may have your baptism recorded on the
rolls of the parish and become a member of Church of the
Resurrection by doing so. We are able to write for your
"letter" from your home congregation if you so wish.
Transfers between Episcopal congregations are routine and
simple. Your ability to furnish us with a place and an
approximate date of baptism is very helpful.
By becoming
a baptized member of Church of the Resurrection, you are
considered a full member and are encourged to become fully
involved in the life of the parish.
CONFIRMED MEMBER - Since many people coming into the
Episcopal Church were baptized as infants or in other
denominations, those people are encouraged, as a sign of a
mature faith, to renew their baptismal vows before the
Bishop. This is known as Confirmation - when one "confirms"
his or her baptismal vows and receives the laying on of
hands by a Bishop. Persons already confirmed in the
Episcopal Church may have their letter transferred to Church
of the Resurrection by contacting the parish office. Those
who have been baptized, whether in the Episcopal Church or
in another denomination, are encouraged to receive the
sacrament of Confirmation when the Bishop comes.
Confirmation classes are offered each year before the
Bishop's visit, which is usually in the spring.
Members are encouraged to become active in the life of the
parish, to attend worship regularly, and to support the
mission of the church with the offering of time, talents,
and resources.
