Week 21 - Sent to Bring Good News
“Disciples committed to helping one another live for Jesus.”
(approx. time: 20 minutes)
Prayer - Consider having an open prayer time where someone opens and others join in as they are led. Then a leader closes.
Debrief - An important part of leading. Use this time to check-in and identify how your group is loving God and others. Consider how you can encourage or lovingly challenge those you lead.
Loving God: Invite the group to share what God is revealing to them through their study in the word. How has their time with God been this week?
Loving Others: Has anyone had an opportunity to meet a new neighbor or have a spiritual conversation with someone? Is there a neighbor that your group can serve?
(approx. time: 45 minutes)
Scripture - Allow time for the group to quietly read Acts 13:13-52, then have someone read the passage out loud.
Summary - Consider providing a brief summary that recaps the passage, sermon, and transitions to the questions below.
Discussion - Use the following to initiate discussion and pursue the heart of those you lead;
In examining Paul's presentation of the gospel, what stands out to you?
Why do you think Paul, like Stephen (Acts 7), provided Old Testament reference to the audience before speaking of Jesus?
What promises are provided in the gospel message?
How do verses 47-49 speak to God's authority, grace and mission?
If someone were to ask you to describe the mission of God, what would you tell them?
If they were to ask how you are currently living on mission what would you say?
Chapter 13 ends with the new believers being filled with joy and the Holy Spirit, having now discovered their place in God's bigger story. How does knowing how you fit into God's story, bring you joy?
(approx. time: 15 minutes)
Vision Cast - To close your time together, recap the main ideas and commend those that participated. Encourage your group to be in prayer asking God to give them opportunities to share the good news of Jesus and the joy they have in him with others.
Other items to vision cast for are the upcoming Summer Social time and ways you can serve together. How will your group continue living SENT through the Summer months? This could also be a time to acknowledge areas of health and ways you feel the group needs to grow in, to be healthier.
Prayer - Invite someone from the group to close out your time in prayer.
