Week 3 - Sent to Preach

This week we learn that God has sent his people into the world to preach the good news of Jesus. This call to preach is both for pastors and every Christian. Though there are differences on where this takes place, the preaching should always be centered on the person and work of Jesus.

The activities in the coming weeks will be closely tied to this topic. However, before moving into those we wanted to set aside the first three weeks to focus on connecting with God through biblical study. As disciples, God's Word is our road map for life. Paul in 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that,

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

The Bible is how we know God and what His will is for our lives. But, it is also our way to be vertically minded. To grow in relationship with God. Through the Word and by the power of the Spirit we are transformed and equipped to live like Jesus. To know Him and to live as His sent people. What a glorious journey we are on together!

May God's Word always be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Tim

    (approx. time: 25 minutes)

  • Prayer - Allow time for the group to fill out a prayer card. Consider having someone pray over those requests and for your group as you begin.

  • Debrief - Invite the group to share what God is revealing to them through their study in the book of Acts. How has their time in the Word helped grow their relationship with God?

     (approx. time: 45 minutes)

  • Bible - Have the group read Acts 2:14-41 quietly. Then have 1-2 people read it out loud for the group. Doing so invites each person to read God’s Word themselves and can help to create a culture where each person is guided and informed by God’s truth.

  • Summary - Consider providing a brief summary that recaps the passage, sermon, and transitions to the questions below.

  • Discussion Questions -

    • In relation to preaching the Word, what verses in Scripture do you turn to when needing to preach the gospel to yourself?

    • Why are these impactful to you and how do they point you to Jesus?

    • Who is God calling you to preach these gospel truths too? What fears do you have in being faithful to that calling? Is there anything we can do as a group to help encourage and support you?

      (approx. time: 5 minutes)

  • Vision Cast - To close your time together, recap the main ideas and commend those that participated. Let the group know that next week you will be working through an activity together on testimonies. At the beginning of the night, you'll be asking people to share ways in which God has been working in their lives or a.k.a sharing evidence of God's grace.

Have you tried using the prayer cards yet? If not, we have plenty for you to pick-up in the foyer. Take as many as you need. I've also included a video teaching on Acts ch. 1-7 by The Bible Project.
